About the Industry Program

Our Industry Program harnesses the skills of engineering and construction professionals to tackle urgent infrastructure needs in underserved communities. The projects your team builds don’t just stand tall - they change and save lives for generations to come, by opening access to education, healthcare, and opportunity.

For our industry partners, this isn’t just philanthropy - it’s professional development with purpose. Your employees grow as leaders, collaborators, and global citizens while directly improving lives.

How It Works

An EIA Industry Build is a 10–14 day immersion where company teams join our staff and community partners to complete a life-changing bridge or WASH project. Volunteers consistently call their builds “the most meaningful professional experience of their lives.”

Hands-On Impact

Pour anchors, build tank stands, hoist cables, lay pipe, place decking, and see life-changing water and bridge projects come to life in your hands.

Shared Experience

Live and work side by side with the partner community, building friendships as strong as the structures themselves.

Turnkey Support

From pre-travel preparation to logistics on the ground, EIA handles food, lodging, transportation, and safety, so your team can focus on building and bonding.

Scalable Engagement

Most builds include 8–12 volunteers, but companies are welcome to send any number of travelers. Individual professionals are also welcome.

Community Engagement in bridge construction projects

Community Engagement

Building a bridge is only part of the story. Teams form lifelong memories through cultural exchange – playing soccer with the community, visiting schools, sharing meals, and swapping stories. These moments transform a construction project into a shared journey of connection.

FAQs

  • EIA’s professional engineering team prepares all bridge designs and drawings to international standards. Designs balance safety, cost, and ease of maintenance, relying almost entirely on locally sourced materials.

Want to be involved? Teams can participate in the design process through our online training, or even serve as the Engineer of Record.

  • EIA provides a full inventory of tools and equipment at every site. Teams can request additional items, and we’ll work together to source them.

  • Local community members are volunteers who help bring the project to life. Depending on the site, you can expect 5–15 participants per day, with more joining if needed. Your EIA Program Manager will provide a site-specific estimate during pre-travel calls.

  • Expect an early start between 6–8 a.m., with work wrapping up around 4–5 p.m.

    • Breakfast and dinner are usually taken at your lodging.

    • Lunch is provided either at the site or brought from the accommodation.

    • Most teams work Monday–Saturday, but Sunday work is possible if the schedule requires.

  • EIA arranges safe, local accommodations close to the site - typically a shared guesthouse or community lodging with 3–10 per room. Every meal is coordinated by a local cook, offering nutritious and culturally immersive food.

  • EIA arranges all ground transportation to and from the site. Teams can choose to self-drive or hire local drivers.

  • Safety is our top priority. All tools, equipment, and materials are prepped in advance, and EIA staff provide daily oversight to ensure the project is completed safely and on schedule.

  • Industry Builds deliver impact on multiple levels:

    • For communities: Essential infrastructure that changes and saves lives for generations.

    • For your company: Stronger teams, elevated leadership skills, enhanced brand reputation, and deeper employee engagement. Many partners describe the experience as the most valuable team-building and CSR investment they’ve ever made.

  • EIA projects offer a tangible, high-visibility CSR opportunity. Unlike one-time donations, your team is directly involved in delivering essential infrastructure that transforms daily life. This hands-on engagement creates compelling stories for internal culture-building and external communications, showcasing your company’s values in action.

We offer clear metrics and impact reports for foundations, ensuring that your grant funding directly translates into measurable improvements in community well-being.

“Without a doubt, my personal experience in constructing footbridges from a senior leadership position is a complete re-engagement with the field that has helped me to get in touch with that effort and reminded me of why I entered the industry, which is an incredible re-awakening that has helped me perform better in my current role.”
