Celebrating 100 Bridges
Since 2006 our Bridge Program, thousands of students from 41 different universities have helped us design and build life-changing pedestrian bridges alongside isolated communities in 12 different countries. This year, we’re passing the century mark as we build our 100th bridge! That’s approximately 150,000 people from 100 communities around the world whose lives have been changed forever. 100 communities who no longer have to make life-or-death choices of whether or not to attempt crossing dangerous rivers and are instead safely connected to essential resources and opportunities like schools, medical facilities, and markets all year round.
The numbers are impressive but the true impact is immeasurable. And chances are that if you’re reading this, you are an important part of this incredible legacy. Whether you worked with us at Bridges to Prosperity, Engineers in Action, or both; as a student, a professional, a mentor, a donor, or a general supporter; we can’t thank you enough for helping us turn these dreams into realities.
But we’re not done yet! There are thousands of isolated communities out there who still need bridges and thousands of volunteers eager to help out. And thus, our “100th Bridge Campaign” was born, both to celebrate the 100 bridges we’ve built to date, and to prepare us to build the next 100 – and beyond!
Our goal is to get at least 100 people giving at least $100/year via monthly* donations. Any amount is welcome, but everyone who signs up for monthly donations that will exceed $100 per year (i.e., $8.34/month or more) will receive our gorgeous “100th Bridge Challenge Coin” which includes the names of every single one of our first 100 bridges built. *Many of our supporters already give one-time donations which we appreciate so much and put to great use toward our shared mission. We will continue to invite you to make those donations during other fundraisers like our annual Year End Campaigns. But giving $10/month instead of $120 at the end of the year, for example, can be even more helpful! We can immediately put that month’s $10 toward the mission. And we can safely plan to expand our scope given that we know the money is already coming in, rather than having to gamble or forego the scope expansion altogether for fear that the lump-sum donation might end up not coming in at all that year. Plus, when our alumni sign up as monthly donors, we can cite that as proof of the impact we are having on our participants (in addition to the communities) when we’re applying for funds from grants, foundations, etc. meaning your donations will be leveraged into even more support, more bridges, more communities connected, and more volunteers empowered.
